THE TREE AND THE BIRD

This poetry is written by my Bade Daddy.......i love this piece..and am sure you will love it too......

The Tree And the Bird

Once upon a time ,

there was a small lone tree

on the bank of a small river.

Being an insignificant one ,

it attracted none.

A small bird lived on it.

Tree loved it.

Every morning lovingly watched it

fly  across the sky.

and was back on to the tree

 in the evening to rest.

Tree longed  to talk to the bird,

to talk  sweet things

to make the bird feel at home.

Sometime bird sang that delighted the tree.

It almost made it  cry in joy.

Bird never knew tree had a heart.

          -2-

Every morning even before sunrise

bird flew off

as all birds do.

Tree looked at it with joy,

and  waited anxiously

 for the evening to arrive

and when it did, tree felt  so happy.

sometime the bird returned late.

it made tree grow apprehensive.

It kept gazing at the sky, revolving its eyes

all around,

and-when spotted the bird-at a distant sky

shooting straight towards it,

tree flew into ecstasy.

It fluttered its branches joyfully

 to welcome the bird.

The bird never knew  tree had a heart.

        -3-

One evening-while tree waited

the bird returned along with

an another bird,

together they made a nest.

And the bird

laid some eggs,

sat over it

for longer period.

After some time

young little ones

popped out of eggs.

Tree loved to have them, and-

looked after them,

when mother and father bird

flew away to get food

for the young ones.

Tree joyfully watched

the young ones grow.

Loved to listen to  their twittering.

 flapping off little wings  sensing

their parent’s  return.

As they grew

little older

 wings grown stronger,

were taught to fly.

Soon they could fly

on their own.

One day,

they flew out

and did not return.

The couple as usual

did return to the tree,

sad and aloof,

missing the young ones.

Sat quiet through the night,

with no song to sing.

Tree didn’t know

What to say

to comfort

the grieving birds.

It silently cried

for the birds,

in not being able

to share their grief.

The birds

never saw

welled up eyes of the tree,

to feel  its heart.

    -4-

One morning,

as usual,

both the birds flew away,

and as usual,

tree anxiously

waited for their return.

As the evening approached,

it kept rolling its eyes

back and forth,

revolving

in all direction,

looking for the couple

in the sky

only to see nothing.

It grew sad.

Yet, quite late,

it heard a flutter of wings,

stretching its eyes

in the dark,

it felt the bird’s return,

but all alone.

And as it sat

where it always did

it felt sad,

and the tree

could hear it crying.

Once again the tree

knew not what to say,

and it bled as much

as the bird.

Bird never knew of it.

-5-

On the touch of

The next morning,

bird flew away

as usual.

Tree  waited.

Evening  arrived

Yet it found.

no sign of the bird.

Tree kept rolling

its eyes in the sky, and-

soon it grew dark

Bird did not return.

Morning came

And day passed,

evening came and night fell,

bird did not return.

Day in and out,

heart in its mouth,

longingly tree

stayed in wait,

hoping against all odds

for birds return.

But it did not.

Tree grew sadder.

It felt,

river bank has

suddenly grown

ever

so lonely.

-6-

Summer came,

hotter than ever.

River dried up,

so did the world around.

Tree knew not

what choked within,

 to cry aloud.

Looking at heaven felt,

it never knew

what it lived for so long

and why ?

It sensed it has stood

millions of years

on the river bank,

and felt it had

outlived all wish to live.

It knew for sure,

day would

Continue to burn, and-

bird would never return.

     -7-

One day-

early in the morning

axe of a woodcutter

fell  mighty on its trunk.

It bled

Within and out,

Yet, refused

to acknowledge

emerging  pain.

Sighed not

as it fell

 on the river bed.

Scorching rays of the sun

had dried up

not only the river bed,

but sign of life

all around.

There was no tree

On the river bank that

 lived to love.

Former President of IndiaAPJ Abdul Kalam : 'A Leader Should Know How to Manage Failure'

Could you give an example, from your own experience, of how leaders should manage failure?

Kalam: Let me tell you about my experience. In 1973 I became the project director of India's satellite launch vehicle program, commonly called the SLV-3. Our goal was to put India's "Rohini" satellite into orbit by 1980. I
was given funds and human resources -- but was told clearly that by 1980 we had to launch the satellite into space. Thousands of people worked together in scientific and technical teams towards that goal.

By 1979 -- I think the month was August -- we thought we were ready. As the project director, I went to the control center for the launch. At four minutes before the satellite launch, the computer began to go through the
checklist of items that needed to be checked. One minute later, the computer program put the launch on hold; the display showed that some control components were not in order. My experts -- I had four or five of them with me -- told me not to worry; they had done their calculations and
there was enough reserve fuel. So I bypassed the computer, switched to manual mode, and launched the rocket. In the first stage, everything worked fine. In the second stage, a problem developed. Instead of the satellite going into orbit, the whole rocket system plunged into the Bay of Bengal. It was a big failure.

That day, the chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization, Prof.Satish Dhawan, had called a press conference. The launch was at 7:00 am,and the press conference -- where journalists from around the world were
present -- was at 7:45 am at ISRO's satellite launch range in Sriharikota[in Andhra Pradesh in southern India]. Prof. Dhawan, the leader of the organization, conducted the press conference himself. He took responsibility for the failure -- he said that the team had worked very hard, but that it needed more technological support. He assured the media that in another year, the team would definitely succeed. Now, I was the project director, and it was my failure, but instead, he took responsibility for the failure as chairman of the organization.

The next year, in July 1980, we tried again to launch the satellite -- and this time we succeeded. The whole nation was jubilant. Again, there was a press conference. Prof. Dhawan called me aside and told me, "You conduct the press conference today."

I learned a very important lesson that day. When failure occurred, the leader of the organization owned that failure. When success came, he gave it to his team. The best management lesson I have learned did not come to me
from reading a book; it came from that experience.

p.s- my cousin had fwded me this piece.....is not it wonderful?...and it just struck me its from sir kalams autobiography called "wings of fire"..............

A new life, a new journey……

A new life

A new journey

Anxiety swathes my heart

What is it going to

Be like?

New faces

New environs

The psychological time

Never leaving me

Alone

Moments of love

Moments of laughter

Moments of hugs

And the mock sulks

The cocoon of warmth

And an invincible

Sense of security…

Coming out of it

Seems scary

Yes it does…….

But He makes me

Confront with a reality

Life does not unfold

The way you want

It to, always

But the way it unfolds

Will undeniably

Put a smile on your face

When alls said and done

Yes, it’s a new life

A new journey

And I have a feeling

Its going to be good………

GREY SHADES OF LIFE.........

05/03/2008

I have stopped feeling bad, I realize. All I feel is a tinge of incredulity muddled up with some indifference that has taken root in some corner of my ever so concerned heart. Concerned for someone I love and long. Or is it that a branch in my heart has been hurt so much that it does not ache any more? Habit, we say. Is it? Or is it no longer about feelings and emotions? Feelings trounced by “adjustments”??………I don’t know……

Maybe I will never know or maybe I will…………maybe……

CONGRATS ONCE AGAIN BOYS IN BLUE......

There’s no feeling like this. The feeling of INDIAN-NESS. No logic today. I feel on top of the world and am sure every true Indian irrespective of whether they watch cricket or not must be having the same emotion as I am encompassing. Every inch of my body dives into an ocean of delight , exulting in today’s triumph that stopped certain wagging tongues.

Barely few months after we were coroneted the “unanticipated” king of T20 cricket , once more we have proved our mettle to entire cricketing sorority(fraternity)…..

[WE HAVE ARRIVED……AUSSIES, NO OFFENCE. BUT YOUR MIND-GAMES, IT SEEMS ARE MAKING OUR INDIAN CRICKETERS TOUGHER,MORE RESOLUTE AND UNWAVERING. WATCH OUT!!]

So here I am beaming ear-to-ear with a heart that swells in pride as India captures the title of the victorious in the CB series. The winning moments will remain forever etched in my memory. Amidst all the baloney and hullabaloo initiated by the Aussies end , we transpired as the ultimate winners in a match that truly set my heart racing. Nail-biting. Nerve-racking.

It was, as if, justice done and history made.

Kudos to our boys in blue!

Kudos to Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar!-Guys, how much more do we expect from him? How much can he give to our discontented souls?

And last but not the least kudos to Mahendra Singh Dhoni- the captain of a ship that sailed through a rough weather with a young crew to reach its destination triumphant and confidence oozing from each of his boys.

A boy representing a youth that’s unruffled by controversies and is matured enough to steer clear of lime-light and let “his boys” to enjoy the win.

KEEP IT UP! GREAT GOING.

                          CHAK DIYA CB SERIES!

Waiting to see you guys become world champions in the next world cup. I know with your newly built buoyancy, your determination you will definitely fulfill every Indians ultimate wish, when it comes to cricket…………

For now , lets indulge in some celebration......am all smiles....what about you guys?

:)

:)

:)

P:S-Hey i forgot to mention the world-cup win by the U-19 team.......they have done a wonderful job as well. Our youth is bringing glory to our motherland with each match that they win...well done U-19 team India!you deserve the very best and with your hard-work and determination am sure you will go a long way.......ALL THE BEST!

And thanks to BEST FRIEND for reminding me of the U19 world-cup win....!!!

AN AFFAIR WITH THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS

I finished reading "THE GOD OF SMALL THINGS".

The book has left me with an  everlasting beautiful feeling of satisfaction and pride of having read it.Like the after-math lingering of a beautiful taste in your mouth long after you are done eating something delicious.

Its a wonderfully written book-not just in terms of language(which fantastically rich) but also in terms of its insight into human emotions and sentiments.Human nature.

Kudos to Arundhati Roy for bestowing us booklovers with something as delectably readable as this.

Its a book i feel every book-lover (not worm,please!!-worm seems derogatory for booklovers and consequently readers like me....and so i refrain from using it......)should make this book a part of his/her library....

ROSE AND LOVE

Dear ilander friends

It is that time of the year again when we breathe love in the air. Its ROSE DAY today and after  a  week its VALENTINES DAY….

ROSE-the flower of love. I love the rose-its beauty symbolizes love.

Love is a beautiful feeling. I keep telling and strongly believe that the feeling of being in love is everything in the superlative. I feel every person should fall in love once in a lifetime because when in love nothing seems wrong , the world is a view through the “rosy-colored glasses”- in fact there are no rights and wrongs. Because when we are in love we listen to our hearts…..and hearts brimming with love can make you do beautiful things.

And like the rose has thorns on its stem love also has its share of obstacles(when I say obstacles , they can take any form-from trivial misunderstandings to larger issues). But hearts-truly-in-love will emerge as the ultimate winners. They will support each other silently until they unite -body and soul.

We never hesitate to “love” the rose inspite its thorns . I hardly know anyone not attracted by the rose flower. She is loved by all and sundry.

But why some people don’t listen to their hearts and hesitate to fall in love, I don’t know. Love , as you will agree is everything . it’s the union of your soul with Gods soul…God had love in his vision when he created this world and look what a beautiful world he has bestowed us with……Only that some people don’t understand……..

HAPPY ROSE DAY!!
